Ease of use is the aim of all our software.

Do your Technicians carry specialised parts in their service vehicles and struggle with Part numbers, identification, circuit diagrams and assosciated literature?

Which part is an app for the iPhone and iPad that creates a 'Parts Book' of your parts and helps you to add copies of any literature associated with that part. The part is kept in a photo gallery and can be searched by Part number, serial number, bar code or nick-name.

Overview

The concept for this app came about due to a need in my own business. One branch of our business deals in servicing and repairing auto doors- the kind you see on shopping centres. Each vehicle is equipped with a range of specialised parts, each with its associated wiring diagrams, installation instructions etc. Each tech had his own way of keeping track of all this. Some are well organised and can remember part numbers etc. but most don't. On top of this, the office staff are not as versed in what a particular part looks like or it's correct part number/ name etc. With this app we can ensure that everyone is familiar with which part they are talking about for ordering and charging. The tech can also have all the instructions and associated literature stored in his iphone or iPad without having to search the vehicle for that elusive instruction manual. ("It was sitting in that box last time I saw it?")

More Info

Each part has a Part Info page where you can add extra particulars such as Part name, description etc. Notes can also be added and up to 3 extra images of the part. This can be used to add pictures of the instruction and specification sheets or maybe a picture of the part from a different angle.  These are show by small pen pictures at the bottom of the page, and can be enlarged by clicking on the Zoom button. A manual stock count can be kept and if the user is running low on the part, a click on the Reorder Part button will bring up an email already filled with the part name and part number. The default recipient, message and email subject can be set up in settings, but can be edited before sending the email. So with just one click and simply entering the amount required, the part can be quickly ordered. No need to wait until you return to the warehouse or workshop.

Searching

We use the 'Smart Search' system for finding the part. This means you can select how you want to search- part name, number or nick name. You then just have to enter any portion of the word or number and all parts will be listed in a gallery that contain that particular letters/numbers sequence. You can also search using a barcode on the part.

Parts Gallery

All parts when added can be viewed in a gallery that can be flicked through to select a specific part to view. This gallery can be arranged and titled by part number, name or nickname. This can be chosen in the settings page.

Zoom

Both the main part photo and the pen pictures on the Part Info page can be zoomed to full screen and larger. This makes it easier to more closely examine the part and is of particular value in magnifying diagrams and instruction sheets. The apple retina screen is very well suited to this use.
